Today I took a vacation day so that I could again go to the Blind Boone Ragtime Festival. This actually meant that I had an extra half hour to get ready this morning. Thanks in part to that, I was able to get my run in before it got exceptionally hot later in the day.
First of all, the cicadas. They are ridiculous. There's one tree line on my warmup walk where they are so loud, and the road is just coated in their smushed carcasses. It's foul. Second. Worms. Why are there worms all over the ground flopping all over the place?! Guh-ross.
As soon as I finished my 5 minute warmup walk (.46K/.29mi), I had a bit of knee pain. It was totally unexpected and out of nowhere, but mercifully did not last too long, because I had to spend most of my run contending with a mid-lower chest cramp. I also tried to focus on hitting on my heel and rolling up to my toe. It seemed like I was doing well with that, although my pace for the day does not reflect it.
I turned to run through my new little neighborhood when I kept hearing what I thought was a dog barking nearby. Actually it was a couple of runners going up the middle of the road, with sidewalks on both sides, yelling so loud I heard them over the cicadas and mp3 player at 6am. Fn Toolbags.
As I ran back down the long flat past the school, there was a woman sitting out on her stoop and she very friendily said good morning. A. I'm not used to anyone being nice around here. B. I was at about the 20 minute mark and could hardly breathe. But I managed to wave a little and mouth good morning. Bah, maybe all runners are toolbags. Oh, except some of us are because we're too tired to be nice, and some are because they're too cocky to be civilized.
Finished my run at the turn off back to the house at 22 minutes - 2.63K - 1.63mi. Took a 5 minute walk home (.47K/.29mi) and promptly downed a Dew and my choco chip/pb waffles. In 2 days I'm gonna go for 26 minutes, then Friday I'll go for 30. That'll be two weeks and a day from my first run back!
No big review for the Ragtime Festival, but a quick list of the performers at the open piano this morning. Again, an amazingly free experience. Oh, and a very interesting session on copyright law which, of course, everything I write on this blog is, unless quoting someone else, where I always try to give due credit.
